The Oceamo ICP-MS is now even more comprehensive and has been extended by a further measuring method.

After an extended experimental phase, we have decided to routinely measure the SAC254 value (spectral absorption coefficient at 254 nm) as part of the Oceamo/Reef Moonshiner ICP-MS seawater analysis.

We also measure SAC254 with the ICP-MS seawater laboratory analysis from Oceamo

SAC254 is a good indicator of the concentration of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in the water column. This allows for the investigation of a whole new aspect of your tank, which can also indicate causes for increased cyano growth. Additionally, it can provide insights into skimming efficiency, the need for activated carbon use, etc.

More about SAC254 for those interested in science

Many organic compounds absorb UV light of certain wavelengths, especially unsaturated systems (multiple bonds, aromatics, carbonyl compounds). In SAC254 determination, UV light with a wavelength of 254 nm is passed through the sample, and the absorption is measured. The measured value does not directly show DOC but strongly correlates with it (i.e., high SAC254 = high DOC). Stability measurements have been conducted, showing that the SAC254 value does not significantly change over several weeks.

What is the SAC254 value in your tank? Use the Oceamo ICP-MS analysis to learn more about your reef!
